“No matter how you may excel in the art of te, and in your scholastic endeavors, nothing is more
important than your behavior and your humanity as observed in daily life.” -Teijunsoku
(Nago Oyakata)
At the SHINBUKAN DOJO of RIO RANCHO our
objective is to provide the highest quality martial arts instruction.
As a traditional Japanese martial arts “Dojo”
(place of the way), we seek to instill the universal virtues of wisdom, dedication, patience, tolerance, cooperation, humility
and work ethic in our students.
This is in harmony with the true principles of “Budo” (martial
way), which means to stop violence. This philosophy has a far deeper meaning than mere self defense. Seeking
to study in this way is known in Budo as “Katsujinken” (the enlightened/life giving sword). Central to this form of training is the Japanese term “Reigi” (etiquette), which goes beyond politeness
and good manners.
“Reigi” conveys the spirit of thinking of others before ourselves. In other
words, selflessness versus selfishness. In this way of training students challenge themselves to become more able and
gifted members of society.
As a result of this mindset and by fostering the spirit of mutual cooperation, every
student in the dojo is challenged to develop themselves in the same way.
With the attitude of cooperation and helping
one another, there are no losers, only winners. Ideally students then bring these virtues into their lives outside of the
dojo. Thus they become a greater asset to the community, as well as their family and friends.
Our training curriculum
is primarily divided into two parts which are closely related in form and function.
Ryukyu
Kobujutsu Matsubayashi Karate

The
two founding teachers of the SHINBUKAN Dojo of Rio Rancho have between them over sixty years of martial arts training. This
is reflected in an integrated syllabus designed to impart a broad understanding and the relationship between all the varied
aspects of the martial way.
We welcome and encourage all regardless of experience to come and share in our training.
We look forward to serving our students and our community.
